Today we look at the amount of prospects from the state of Texas who have already committed to out of state programs early in the 2017 recruiting class.

THE NUMBERS:

National Signing Day for the 2017 recruiting class is still over 10 months away, but there are already 70 prospects from the state of Texas who have verbally committed to the program of their choice at this point.

Out of the 70 current committed players from Texas, 34 of them are committed to out of state programs. There are several programs within the Big12 that traditionally recruit the state of Texas and are close in proximity to the state, so let's take out the 15 total commitments to Big12 programs for this exercise.

That leaves 19 total prospects from the state committed to out of state programs, which include commitments to almost every major conference in the country - Pac12, Big10, ACC, and SEC programs.

SEC - 3 total (six committed to Texas A&M)

Big10 - 9 total

The Hawkeyes are riding a successful season and Top 4 finish onto the recruiting trail. Iowa was the first program to offer Benjamin and did a really good job of landing the talented four-star prospect.

The Cyclones are getting a very solid linebacker in Boyd, who held over 10-plus offers from programs around the country. At 6-foot-4, 220-pounds and playing in the Katy defense, the new coaching staff at Iowa State could be getting a steal with this commitment.

Ingram might have added more new offers over the past few months than any other prospect in the state. LSU and Alabama were thought to be his leaders, but a follow up trip to Baton Rogue sealed the deal for the Tigers. A mauler in the run game, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound guard is an ideal fit for the LSU offensive attack.

Nixon, another DeSoto prospect, made it official this weekend and announced his commitment to Tennessee. A versatile weapon on offense and special teams, Nixon is an excellent addition for the Vols. Considered a slot receiver, the 5-foot-8, 181-pound receiver has a good build and elite speed on the inside.

Pat Fitzgerald and his staff have always recruited the state of Texas, but the Wildcats are off to a tremendous start in this 2017 recruiting class. Five (5) players from Texas have already made verbal commitments to Northwestern - Bryce Jackson, Earnest Brown, Austin Hiller, Rashawn Slater, and Sam Miller.

Brown is certainly the prize of the group, but each prospect represents a competitive recruiting win for the Wildcats here in the state of Texas.

Notre Dame holds two early commitments from Texas prospects in the 2017 recruiting class - Avery Davis and Brock Wright.

Davis runs a very productive offense full of weapons at Cedar Hill and should be able to easily transition onto the college level. Wright is a physical specimen at the tight end position and one of the top prospects in the nation.

Colorado is another program who has quietly started to put much more of an emphasis on the state of Texas in the 2017 recruiting class. The Buffs recently landed a verbal commitment from Cedar Hill (Texas) four-star receiver Jaylon Jackson. The announcement surprised a lot of people who cover the state of Texas, but Colorado might not be done landing other prospects from the Lone Star State.

Oklahoma is another team riding the momentum from a Top 4 season onto the recruiting trail. The Sooners are the Sooners and usually recruit very well, but the start to this 2017 recruiting class in Texas is something special.

They currently have six (6) early commitments from the state of Texas - Chris Robison, Jalen Reagor, Cedarian Lamb, Charleston Rambo, Tyrese Robinson, and Robert Barnes. That gives the Sooners five (5) four-star players, all Rivals 250 prospects, and one 5.7 three-star prospect in Reagor who could move upward in the rankings cycles to come.

With various hashtags and other battle cries on social media, this group of early commitments has been vocal when it comes to recruiting others and it's safe to say the Sooners are far from done in Texas for this 2017 recruiting class.
